I live in another province. Can I take a summer course?
Only Alberta residents are eligible and must have an Alberta Education student number to register.
Can I take a diploma course online?
No, we do not offer Diploma courses during summer school.
Can I begin a course before or after the start date?
All courses begin June 30. Students need to begin their courses on that date. (students enrolled in PE may begin after the start date, this needs to be communicated with the school)
Do I have to come to The Centre for Learning@HOME for classes/exams/final exams?
No. We are an online distance education program and our courses and all exams are delivered online.
Are the Summer School courses recognized by Alberta Education?
Yes. St. Paul’s Academy is a fully accredited school recognized by Alberta Education and part of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools from Okotoks, Alberta.
My child is registered with a different school division in Alberta, can he or she attend your Summer School?
Yes, if your child is registered with a different Alberta school division he or she may take summer school courses. All courses at The Centre for Learning@HOME are recognized by Alberta Education and will appear on your child's offical transcript. Please note, students must minimally be entering grade 10 in September to be eligible to take a high school course.
Will you send my marks to my current school?
No. Marks will be submitted to Alberta Education at the end of the course. You can access your final course grades through myPass by clicking here. The school you are attending in September will be able to see your grades that are stored with Alberta Education.
Do I need to purchase textbooks?
No. However, for those courses that require a textbook, there is a non-refundable $25.00 shipping cost. Textbooks are to be be returned to the school once the course is finished--with the exception of the Math 20-1 workbook which students keep. To receive the deposit, books must be received by The Centre for Learning@HOME by August 18. Books returned after August 18 will not receive a deposit refund.
Can I work at my own pace?
We advise, where possible, that students are online during school hours so they can seek assistance from teachers. There are assignment deadlines given by the teacher to help keep students on track. Should a student need extra time for an assignment they may contact their teacher to discuss this. All course work must be completed by the last day of summer school at which time students will receive their final course mark.
What time commitment is required to complete an online course?
Five credit courses are completed over 20 school days in July, and three credit courses are completed over 12 school days. As such, students should expect to spend a minimum of four hours a day on their course work.
